AN UNQUIET MIND: THE UNTOLD STORY OF ISABELLE CADIEUX

2011

Body of Work: Fictional Documentary Video, Artifacts, Sculpture, Photography, Published Book

An Unquiet Mind: The Untold Story of Isabelle Cadieux is an interdisciplinary body of work that comprises the artworks and artifacts of an unknown French Outsider Artist.  (Isabelle Cadieux  b. 1966 – d. 1998, France)

Isabelle Cadieux is fictitious. As a cabinet of curiosities engenders a sense of mystery, so does this narrative, which prompts the audience to contemplate their own conceptions of history.  Meanwhile, there is a constellation of contemporary issues raised by this body of work: feminism in outsider art, the nature of collective memory, and the inherent fiction in historical & cultural narratives.
